Host Seminole took another big stride in the District 5 senior softball Tournament of Champions with a 13-0 victory over Baypoint on Wednesday night.
Jessamyn San Filippo had two doubles and drove in three runs for Seminole. Samantha Smith also scored three runs for Seminole.
Seminole advanced to Wednesday night's game by rallying past Southwest 2-1 with two outs in the seventh inning.
Starting pitchers Emily Milroy, for Southwest and Alex Koronkiewicz for Seminole kept the game scoreless until the fifth inning, when Seminole leftfielder Breena Bails scored the first run of the game.
A timely relay from the outfield started by rightfielder Stephanie Wood cut down a potential tying run at the plate and helped seal the victory for Seminole.
Seminole will play Meadowlawn on Friday night for a berth in the championship game. Meadowlawn defeated Northeast 12-2 Tuesday night.
In the early Monday game, Northeast defeated Pinellas Park National 6-3. Northeast will play Southwest tonight at 6.
In District 5 junior softball, Pinellas Park National defeated Cross Bayou 7-1. Northeast defeated Pinellas Park American, and will advance to play Northwest tonight at 6.
In District 5 major baseball, Cross Bayou defeated Meadowlawn 10-0 in four innings. Aaron Permuy did not allow a hit and struck out six batters for Cross Bayou, while third baseman Trent Locke went 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
Gulfport defeated Northwest 3-1. Robert Brown pitched a complete game for Gulfport, striking out nine Northwest batters. Paul Howell's pitched a complete-game shutout in Azalea's 2-0 win over Baypoint. In District 5 major baseball, West Pasco captured its second tournament win with a 3-0 victory over Dunedin National.
