Tractors to pull in scholarship funds
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer INVERNESS -- Tractors of all shapes, ages and horsepowers will be participating in the Truck and Tractor pull scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Citrus County Fairgrounds. The pull is a family event and a fundraiser for the Citrus County Fair Association, which uses money from the pull to fund college scholarships. This is the smaller of two annual tractor pulls; a larger, sanctioned event is scheduled for January. Sunday's pull is a nonsanctioned pull just for the fun of it. Many local tractor owners participate, either by pulling or displaying their tractors. The goal at a tractor pull is for the vehicle to pull a weighted sled across the floor of the livestock arena. The mechanical sled has a weight that makes it dig in to the soft soil, thus causing the tractor to lose traction. The event will be held at the fairgrounds' horse arena, just south of the auditorium alongside U.S. 41 S. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and older or more than 31/2 feet tall. Children shorter than 31/2 feet are admitted free. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
