Graduating senior Amy Catherine Spurr waves to friends and family members before Countryside's commencement ceremony Thursday at the Times Arena at Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg. Spurr was one of 430 graduating seniors.

SPEAKERS: Julie Janssen, principal; Harris, valedictory address; Alison Sheasley, senior class president's address; Nicole Bunjaporte, senior class vice president, presentation of class gift.

BEST QUOTE: "This is not the end or the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning," said Harris, quoting Winston Churchill.

LENGTH OF CEREMONY: One hour, 45 minutes

CLASS GIFT: The graduates donated eight computers and new books to the library and a table to the cafeteria.

SCENES AND SIGHTS: One family held up the letters M-A-D-D-O-G. Each female graduate was given a yellow rose.

TOTAL LENGTH OF SPEECHES: 22 minutes.

AVERAGE TIME OF HANDSHAKE: Two seconds.
