Burglar kills sleeping manBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published June 8, 2002 TAMPA -- A Tampa man was killed when a burglar broke into his home and shot him, sheriff's deputies said. Johnny Broner, 30, of 1508 E 138th Ave. was asleep shortly before 6 a.m. Friday when at least one man broke through his front door, deputies said. The man entered Broner's bedroom, shot him and fled. Paramedics took Broner to Tampa General Hospital, where he died at 8:30 a.m. At the time of the shooting, Broner's wife, two adult friends and two children, ages 8 and 10, were in the house.
