TAPAS BAR OPENS MONDAY: The owner of Pipo's Jr. Cafe in Northdale is opening another Spanish-Cuban restaurant. Papito's Cuban Cafe and Bar moved into the space once occupied by the CDB's Italian restaurant. One side of the restaurant will offer cafeteria-style service similar to the Pipo's Jr. at 3879 Northdale Blvd. Diners can choose from Cuban favorites such as roast pork and black beans and yellow rice. On the other side, a tapas bar will feature 31 hot and cold Spanish appetizers of calamari, shrimp, fish, mussels, chicken, pork and beef. The tapas side will also feature a full-service bar.
The restaurant will open Monday at 5303 Ehrlich Road in the Country Road Square shopping plaza in Carrollwood. A grand opening celebration featuring cigar rolling and live Spanish music is scheduled for Saturday.
Cafeteria hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tapas bar hours are 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 2 a.m. Saturday and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 849-7675.
CATERING BUSINESS DELIVERS: Brianna's Fine Foods opened May 1 at 4920 Newkirk Drive in the Northkirk Shopping Plaza.
Store owner and chef Mark McDonald said Brianna's offers wholesale foods and some walk-in service, such as fresh pastries and sandwiches. But mostly, his business offers home-cooked meals for families or small parties that can be delivered right to one's home or office. Requests require 24-hour advance notice, he said.
