Cross Bayou cruises to West Division title

Cross Bayou wrapped up the minor baseball West Division with a 14-2 victory over Thunder Dome on Wednesday night, claiming a spot in the District 5 championship game.

Starting pitcher Travis Locke struck out eight, helping his own cause by driving in three runs. Second baseman Gabe Windschauer had three RBIs. David Dresselhaus, Nick Pensa and Mike Bouribon each scored three runs for Cross Bayou.

Cross Bayou has scored at least 10 runs in each of its four tournament games and will await the East Division winner.

Northeast advanced to the East Division championship game with a 9-6 win over Baypoint. Centerfielder Jerrod Flanagan had three hits and drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the sixth.

M.J. Maguire pitched five scoreless innings for the win, striking out eight. Northeast will play Seminole No. 1 tonight at 7.

MINOR SOFTBALL: Alysha Van Buren and Meghan Edwards both hit home runs in the first inning and Cross Bayou belted Pinellas Park National 12-8 to win the West Division. Edwards also had two triples. Cross Bayou will play either Meadowlawn or Azalea for the title.

JUNIOR SOFTBALL: Pinellas Park National defeated Seminole 11-1 to win the championship.

SENIOR BASEBALL: Kyle Griffith tossed a no-hitter, striking out 14 in Pinellas Park National's 13-0 victory over Cross Bayou. Third baseman Adam Cheesebrew went 4-for-4 and hit back-to-back home runs with catcher Kyle Scott in the third inning. Stevie Mullins had three hits. Pinellas Park National will play Gulfport tonight at 7.

JUNIOR BASEBALL: Matt Stull tossed a complete game, helping Northeast defeat Pinellas Park National 10-2. Stull allowed only six hits and had a perfect game through three innings. Shortstop Ryan Luker went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.

MAJOR BASEBALL: Palm Harbor American defeated West Pasco 10-0 to win the District 12 title.
