Stretching Collier Parkway in the works
By JAMES THORNER, Times Staff Writer
LAND O'LAKES -- As Land O'Lakes grows, so does Collier Parkway.
Collier, which the county has lengthened and widened to keep pace with housing development over the past 10 years, is due for yet another extension.
Pasco County engineers will present a route study to take Collier from Hale Road north about a mile to Parkway Boulevard and Ehren Cutoff near the Baldomero Lopez State Veterans Nursing Home.
Suggested routes would most likely impact private land owned by Lake Padgett Properties Associates Ltd. and a large county wastewater treatment site.
Plans to extend Collier picked up steam with the zoning approval two years ago of Connerton New Town Development.
Connerton, proposed for about 8,000 homes between Ehren Cutoff, U.S. 41 and State Road 52, needs Collier as one of its lifelines to State Road 54.
Collier's most recent overhaul, a project to widen it from two to four lanes from SR 54 to Parkway Boulevard, ended in November. Another widening project has begun from SR 54 south to Willow Bend Parkway.
The Collier study is scheduled for an airing at the Pasco County Commission meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Historic Pasco County Courthouse in Dade City.
