SPRING HILL -- Darryl Hamilton, a 59-year-old Spring Hill retiree, has filed to run for a seat on the Spring Hill Fire Rescue Commission.

Hamilton has worked in the insurance industry and he has previously served on boards with various associations. Among others, he served on Timber Pines' finance, safety security and investment committees.

"Spring Hill voters face important issues as our fire and rescue district seeks approval for financial independence from the county," Hamilton wrote in a news release announcing his candidacy.

He went on to say that his "background in management and insurance should also be helpful to the commissioners in sustaining quality services at cost effective levels for Spring Hill."

The fire commission, which oversees the budget for the Spring Hill Fire Rescue District, has begun the process of seeking independence from Hernando County government.

Seats on the five-member board are unpaid positions.

Hamilton, a father of four who has been married for 38 years, has lived in Spring Hill since 1997.
