Youth orchestras swarm Sarasota

Beginning Sunday, six youth orchestras totaling almost 600 players will be in Sarasota for the biennial National Youth Orchestra Festival. Each orchestra -- from Orlando; Pittsburgh; Houston; Louisville, Ky.; Omaha, Neb.; and Claremont, Calif. -- will play in concerts Tuesday and Wednesday. A chamber music concert June 27 will feature works of composer-in-residence Jennifer Higdon and four student composers. Combined festival orchestras will give concerts June 29 under guest conductors, clockwise from top left, Daniel Hege, Giancarlo Guerrero, Christopher Wilkins and Alastair Willis. All concerts are in Van Wezel Hall. Single tickets: $11. (941) 953-3434.
