CHANNEL DISTRICT -- People living and working downtown take note: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday the Tampa Port Authority will blast sections of seawall across from the Florida Aquarium.
The blasting is part of a major project to redevelop a 52-acre site known as Port Ybor, which once housed the authority's headquarters and several shipping-related businesses. The plan includes rebuilding and realigning the 1900s seawall to help ships maneuver safely through the Ybor Channel.
Port officials put out the notice so that residents will not be alarmed, given the nation's heightened state of alert. The blastings will continue through October.
