A closer look: One Hillsborough church

Sunday SmallGroups meets at 9 a.m. A Worship Celebration and Children's Church take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday Evening SmallGroups meets at 6 p.m. Friday night's Lifequest is at 7:30 p.m. and is preceded by dinner at 6:30 p.m. HISTORY: Founded in 1926 by the Rev. J. L. Webb, Bethel, at that time was called Highland Park Tabernacle, started in a tent on Ross and Highland avenues and . The church congregation moved to the present facility in 1966 after a series of renovations and expansions. LEADERSHIP: Dr. Guy M. Glass has served as the senior pastor for 21/2 years. The Plant City native earned his bachelor's degree from Lee University and his doctorate from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va. Glass and his wife, Nancy, have been married for more than 20 years and have three sons, Matt, Josh and James. SERMON TOPIC OR THEME: Dr. Glass is spending the summer addressing questions from the congregation. The sermon series is titled "Dangerous Questions" and gives members an opportunity to ask questions they might normally feel uncomfortable asking. MEMBERSHIP: 550. COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Bethel Assembly works with Metropolitan Ministries to serve food and clothing on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. On Saturday mornings, Bethel provides a variety of children's activities in Ybor City.
