Racin' deals

TAKING HIS CUTS: Dale Jarrett, 45, took batting practice with the San Francisco Giants before Wednesday's game against the Rays. Jarrett, who turned down a golf scholarship to the University of South Carolina to drive race cars, was all-conference in football, basketball and golf in high school in North Carolina. No word on whether the Rays made him an offer.

STORMING THE FIELD: The Winston Cup series visits Sears Point this weekend, the first of two road courses on the 36-race schedule, and the specialists are swarming. Among those entered are Ron Fellows, who recently won the GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Boris Said, Jim Inglebright, Austin Cameron and Jerry Nadeau, who will sub for Steve Grissom in the No.44 for this race only.

"These Winston Cup races are like Christmas to me, they only come once or twice a year," Said said. "I'm like a little kid. I've been waiting all year to get back into one of these cars and I'm ready."

PURPLE REIGN: The voting results are in, and the new addition to the M&M's rainbow -- and the color of Ken Schrader's No.36 Pontiac for the night race at Bristol in August -- is purple. Aqua was second, pink a distant third. In the United States, purple won with 49 percent of the vote. It's a shame, really. Schrader would have been so pretty in pink.

GOT MILK?: Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt is featured on the cover of Wheaties cereal boxes available in Indiana, Michigan and the southeast.
