Job change creates vacancy on EDC board
By JENNIFER GOLDBLATT, Times Staff Writer LAND O'LAKES -- A job change for Earl Young has created a vacancy on the board of the Pasco Economic Development Council. Young recently left SunTrust Bank to join Community National Bank of Zephyrhills. As a senior vice president for SunTrust, he was elected to a three-year term as the EDC's president last fall. But the EDC's rules require board members to step aside if they leave the employers they originally represented on the board. Young says he still plans to remain active in the EDC. Young, 53, spent 10 years at SunTrust and most recently worked in business lending. He joined Community National Bank as a senior vice president last week and will continue to do business lending. Community National Bank is based in Zephyrhills and has seven branches in Pasco, Sumter and Lake counties. The EDC will elect four new members to its 10-member board in the fall. After that, there will be a special election for a new president. In other EDC news, two local companies have recently made bets on Pasco County. Joe Burns, president of Roscrea Holding Corp., a Hudson-based developer, is constructing four buildings at Congress Street and Pine Hill Road. The buildings, which range from 5,100 to 7,200 square feet, are expected to be completed in November. The buildings do not yet have tenants. Liftek Corp., which designs and builds safety equipment for cranes, moved to a 1,200-square-foot building in Scheer Commerce Park in Hudson. The 6-year-old company has two employees and moved to Pasco from Blacksburg, Va. -- Jennifer Goldblatt covers business in Pasco County.
