Planning to join the Tall Ship flotilla today? All boaters are welcome, but because there will be so many in the water, it's more important than usual to follow these rules of safe and courteous boating:

-- Respect the 500-foot security zone around the Tall Ships.

-- Boaters can join the flotilla at any point, just obey the standard "rules of the road."

-- Do not linger or drop anchor around the Sunshine Skyway bridge. There is a 100-foot security zone around the bridge supports.

-- If you are trailering your boat, get to your ramp early. Expect long lines.

-- Make sure you have adequate fuel.

-- Don't overload your boat.

-- Make sure you have the proper lifesaving equipment, including flares, a sound-making device, etc., because law enforcement will be out in full force.

-- Respect the right of way. Keep an eye out for other boats. It will be crowded on the water.

-- File a float plan with someone you know and trust.
