Saying he wants to continue a tradition of public service, Republican Ken Feck has announced plans to run for the state House of Representatives.
"I just feel like I would be able to be a more effective representative than any of the other candidates," Feck said, citing "my history of community service to this community, specifically, and my willingness to work with others to accomplish a common goal for the district."
Feck is running in newly redrawn House District 53, centered in St. Petersburg. Incumbent Democratic Rep. Charlie Justice and Libertarian Michael Gilson-De Lemos also are running.
Feck said his parents raised him to volunteer. He was chairman of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, which brought Christmas trees and gift certificates to 500 families last year. He also is a Rotarian and serves on a city housing roundtable.
Feck, 32, works as a small business loan officer for Mercantile Bank.
He declined to outline his legislative proposals or views on major issues affecting the state, saying he wanted to do so later, after talking to more voters.
Feck is an Army veteran and a graduate of Boca Ciega High School, St. Petersburg Junior College and the University of South Florida. He is married and has two children.
