Storms wreak havoc Friday

A ferocious thunderstorm swept through Citrus County on Friday afternoon, leaving a trail of damage in its wake. Torrential rains and high winds whipped shingles off the roof of Farmers Furniture Co. at 657 SE U.S. 19 in Crystal River, said Ronda Hemminger Evan, a spokeswoman for the Citrus County Sheriff's Office. The weather was also blamed for a collision at County Road 486 outside Damron Auto Parts. One person had to be transported to Tampa General Hospital, Evan said. The power was out at the Lecanto Government Building for about 40 minutes after lightning struck nearby. There was no damage to the building. Power lines were also reported down along Cutler Spur and U.S. 19, Evan said.
