A busy day for two districts

District 13 gets into full swing today when majors, juniors and seniors begin tournament play.

In the South bracket of major softball at Pinecrest, Bloomingdale will face North Brandon at 10 a.m. and the hosts have a matchup with East Point at 1 p.m. The winners meet at 11 a.m. Sunday and the losers will play an elimination game at 1:45 p.m.

In the North bracket at Antioch, Land O'Lakes and New Tampa square off in the early game at 10 a.m. and East Bay and Antioch follow at 1 p.m.

Pinecrest and Antioch will also host the junior softball tournament.

In the South bracket at Pinecrest, East Bay and East Point meet at 4 p.m. and Bloomingdale and Pinecrest play at 7.

At Antioch, Lutz and Seminole play at 11 a.m. and Antioch awaits the winner of Land O'Lakes and New Tampa.

Seventeen teams are vying for a chance at the major baseball championship.

The South bracket opens with four games at East Bay. The host meets Southeast at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to meet the winner of the Bloomingdale American and Bloomingdale National matchup. In the first game of the day at 10 a.m., Progress Village plays North Brandon. The winner of that game will face either South Brandon or Pinecrest.

Temple Terrace, host of the North bracket, awaits the winner of Belmont and Antioch. Land O'Lakes National and North Seminole will play the other game.

Also at Temple Terrace, Lutz meets East Point and New Tampa plays Land O'Lakes American. The winners of the North and South brackets play July8 for the district title.

In junior baseball, Temple Terrace will host the North bracket and faces Belmont Heights at 7 p.m. East Point and Antioch play at 4. North Seminole, Land O'Lakes, Lutz and New Tampa round out the bracket.

In the South, host Pinecrest plays Bloomingdale American at 7 p.m. after Southeast faces Bloomingdale National. East Bay and North Brandon start action at Pinecrest at 10 a.m. followed by Progress Village and South Brandon.

In senior baseball at East Bay, East Bay and Bloomingdale have byes in the South bracket. Southeast and South Brandon play for the right to face Bloomingdale. The winner between Belmont and North Brandon plays East Bay on Sunday.

Host Antioch and Lutz received the byes in the North bracket. The winner of Land O'Lakes and North Seminole gets Lutz, while Antioch will face either East Point or New Tampa.

In District 6 9-10 softball, host Citrus Park outscored West Tampa and South Tampa 33-1 to advance to today's losers bracket final against Bayshore. The winner gets Northside, which defeated Bayshore 1-0 on Wednesday. At Northwest, the 9-10 baseball tournament continues today after rain washed out Friday's two games.
