A closer look: One Hillsborough church

Tampa Bay Community Church

LOCATION: 3315 W Fletcher Ave., Tampa (813) 963-2366

SERVICES AND PROGRAMS: Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. The midweek services are Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Youth groups also meet at the church on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. Prayer services are held on Sunday and Wednesday at 9 a.m.

HISTORY: The church was founded in 1980 by the Rev. Bruce Myrick, the former pastor of Bayshore Baptist Church. After meeting in various locations including schools and other area churches, Tampa Bay Community moved to its current location in 1987.

LEADERSHIP: The Rev. Ken Klassen came to the church from Southern California in 1982. A California native, Klassen attended Pasadena College, now Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego. There he received bachelor's degrees in sociology and psychology. Nearly 10 years after graduating college, Klassen went back to school at Golden Gate Seminary. After finishing seminary in California, Klassen was ordained in 1978 by Grace Community Church in Tempe, Ariz. Klassen and his wife, Sue, have been married 39 years and have three adult children.

MEMBERSHIP: Tampa Bay Community is a small, family-oriented church with about 75 members.
