Land O'Lakes continued its comeback through the District 13 Junior softball losers bracket Friday with a 14-2 victory over Antioch. The win forced another game today at 11a.m. to decide the North bracket.
The winner will meet undefeated East Point in the championship series.
Friday's win was the fourth straight for Land O'Lakes after it dropped the tournament opener to New Tampa 5-3. Land O'Lakes then advanced by forfeit when North Seminole withdrew, then eliminated New Tampa in a rematch 2-0.
Trailing 5-3 heading into the last inning against Lutz, Land O'Lakes appeared on its way home. However, the team responded with four runs in the seventh to claim the victory.
Then came Friday's encounter with host Antioch.
Land O'Lakes coach Jerry Scott said his team appeared to lose its bats earlier in the tournament, but then exploded with 14 runs against Antioch to force today's decisive game.
In Senior baseball, a game between Land O'Lakes and East Point was rained out. The elimination game will be made up Sunday at 2p.m. with the winner advancing to meet Antioch in the final of the North bracket.
North Brandon stayed alive in the South bracket of the Junior tournament with an 11-1 defeat of East Bay, assuring a rematch with South Brandon at 11a.m. today in the losers bracket final.
South Brandon defeated North Brandon 7-6 in the second round.
The first game of the best-of-three series between North Brandon and Land O'Lakes for the Major softball championship starts today at 11a.m. at Pinecrest Little League.
In District 6, the Major, Junior and Senior tournaments begin today.
At Keystone Little League, eight of the 11 teams in the Junior field begin play. Keystone, West Tampa and Bayshore have byes and won't play until Sunday.
Citrus Park will be the site of the three-team competition for the Junior softball title, while five teams start play today at Northside for the Major softball title.
All District 6 champions advance to the Section 7 tournaments hosted by Interbay Little League.
