TED WILLIAMS DIES: Ted Williams, the former Boston Red Sox great who made his retirement home in Citrus Hills, dies at age 83.

LIGHTNING STRIKE: Bruce Watson, 44, of Volusia County died after being struck by lightning while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico near Ozello.

CLERK DELAYS LAUNCH: Clerk of the Circuit Court Betty Strifler announced she would delay the launch of an online records system so residents would have more time to see whether their Social Security number appears on any official records under their name. If it does, they can fill out a form asking the clerk to remove it from the document image that will be posted on the Internet.

DCF CHIEF MOVING ON: Patrick Howard, the Department of Children and Families' top administrator in this region, is leaving to become county administrator in Marion County. He probably will begin his new job in early August.
