Military newsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published July 10, 2002 Air Force Col. David Gruber, son of Carol and Don Gruber of St. Petersburg, was promoted to his present rank and assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon. A 1975 graduate of Lakewood High School, Gruber attended the University of Florida before transferring to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he graduated in 1980. Cadet Richard Edward Hull III, son of Mary and Richard Hull of St. Petersburg, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army. Hull, a 1998 graduate of Shorecrest Preparatory School, studied information systems engineering at West Point. The American Legion Auxiliary presented Treasure Island American Legion Post 158 a newly awarded charter in a ceremony held at the post, 10359 Gulf Blvd. Post Commander Bob Dailey and Ladies' Auxiliary president Marylou Albright accepted the award on behalf of the post. As an adjunct to the American Legion, the auxiliary is devoted to men and women in all branches of the military.
