East Lake wraps up Minor All-Stars title

East Lake won its first District 12 Minor baseball All-Stars championship by defeating Oldsmar 11-5 on Thursday.

Catcher Brandon Moores drove in two runs in the first with a base hit up the middle. Wesley Sargent scored three times and hit a double.

Second baseman William Fulmer had three hits and two RBIs. Fulmer also made seven putouts at second base. Aaron Watson picked up the win.

East Lake advances to the sectional tournament at Interbay next week.

MAJOR BASEBALL: Chris Nash tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts in Countryside's 12-0 win over Holiday in District 12. Catcher Jeff Ijjas hit two home runs and drove in six. JUNIOR BASEBALL: Northeast trounced Gulf Beaches 20-3 in District 5. Todd Turini had two hits and drove in four runs. Chris Hamm had two hits in the bottom of the third as part of Northeast's 14-run rally. Anthony Janicki picked up the win.

Pinellas Park National defeated Seminole 9-2 behind the pitching of Drew Eddingr, who allowed three hits.

Palm Harbor National defeated West Pasco 13-4 in District 12. Jeff Ludlow pitched six innings for the win.

Ludlow also had three hits and drove in three runs. Tony Ancona and Chris Connolly each had two hits while Tony Cervio and Bobby Hartman each had two RBIs. Kenny Almeida got the win.

JUNIOR SOFTBALL: Safety Harbor captured the District 12 All-Stars championship with a 5-2 win over Tarpon Springs.

Safety Harbor got on the scoreboard early thanks to a two-run home run in the first. Sam Spidel had a hit and scored the game-winning run in the second. Erin Hackett struck out four in three innings for the win. Sam Ortga, Rachel Callen, Jessica Yung and Kim Richardson all had hits for Safety Harbor.
