Retirement
Army Col. Barry Michael Ward, son of Patricia H. Ward and William W. Ward of Clearwater, has retired. The 1971 graduate of Clearwater High School received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. At his retirement, he received a certificate of appreciation from President George W. Bush, a letter of appreciation from U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, a Legion of Merit medal and a Commander's Award for Achievement medal. He has accepted an offer from Georgia Institute of Technology to serve as senior executive researcher for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
Army Pvt. 2 Peter Urban Jr., son of Pete and Linda Urban of Largo, graduated from military police training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he completed basic training. Urban has qualified as a grenade expert and marksman. He has been assigned to Fort Polk, La.
Army Pvt. 2 Trevor Norman, son of Tom and Carmen Norman of Tarpon Springs, graduated from jump school at Fort Benning, Ga. Norman, a 2001 graduate of East Lake High School, completed cannon crew and basic training at Fort Sill, Okla. He has been assigned to an artillery/paratrooper battery in Anchorage, Alaska.
