Part of River Village Drive to be closed for sewer repairs

TARPON SPRINGS -- River Village Drive will be closed to traffic from 636 to 650 River Village Drive for about three weeks, beginning Monday. The closure will allow the utilities maintenance department to repair an existing sewer main. Residents whose driveways will be inaccessible can park on the corner of River Village Drive and Seaboard Drive in the city right of way during construction. Congressman invites residents to meeting with EPA officials

TARPON SPRINGS -- U.S. Rep. Mike Bilirakis, R-Tarpon Springs, will hold a community meeting with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Inspector General Nikki Tinsley and new EPA ombudsman Mary M. "Peggy" Boyer from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Tarpon Springs City Hall to discuss the Stauffer Chemical Superfund cleanup. The meeting is an opportunity for residents to meet Boyer, who replaced former EPA ombudsman Robert Martin. Martin quit this spring rather than accept a transfer he said would have virtually redefined his office out of existence. City Hall is at 324 E Pine St.

Construction of master pump station may block some roads

TARPON SPRINGS -- Construction will begin on the Lake Tarpon master pump station and sewer collection system on or around July 31. A master pump station will be installed on the east side of Jasmine Avenue between Lime and Oakwood streets in the right of way adjacent to a storm water management pond. Installation of sewer pipes will take place in the following areas: Oakwood Street from U.S. 19 to Highland Avenue; Lake Street from Jasmine Avenue west to the dead end; Jasmine Avenue between Lake and Boyer streets; and Boyer Street from Jasmine Avenue to Highland Avenue. The roads may be blocked at times, and traffic will be redirected. The contractor is Center Line Construction Corp. of Brooksville. The project is expected to be finished in January 2003.
