Another round of rough, stormy weather is expected today in the Tampa Bay area.

Another round of rough, stormy weather is expected today in the Tampa Bay area.

A huge low-pressure system spinning around the north central Gulf of Mexico for several days changed directions Friday, drifting east-northeast, toward the Panhandle.

By this morning, it is expected to bring thunderstorms to much of North Florida, likely reaching as far south as Tampa Bay.

"Some of the thunderstorms could be on the strong side," said John McMichael, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Ruskin. "It should be cloudy and rainy, with gusty winds, probably through the first half of the day, then tapering off by afternoon."

Forecasters predict up to an inch of rain today over most of the area, with some areas getting as much as 2 to 3 inches.
