Fire destroys 3 apartmentsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published July 18, 2002 TAMPA -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is investigating whether a fire that heavily damaged three apartments late Wednesday night is suspicious. The fire at the Valencia Apartments at 15th Street and Fletcher Avenue was spotted by a firefighter in a nearby firehouse about 9:30 p.m., said spokesman Ray Yeakley. More than 40 firefighters were called to the complex. Three apartments were heavily damaged, and one apartment sustained minor damage. No one was injured. Three families were displaced. Yeakley said the fire started in an unoccupied apartment; the prior tenant of that apartment had been evicted earlier Wednesday, he said. Hillsborough Fire Rescue was helped by Tampa Fire Rescue and Temple Terrace fire. The blaze was brought under control about 11:30 p.m. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
