Gulfport seeks advisers on waterfront, money

GULFPORT -- The city is accepting applications for the Waterfront Redevelopment Advisory Board until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Voting positions for one resident and one business owner/operator are available and require the applicant to be either a resident or business owner/operator within the Waterfront Redevelopment District. The term for the voting positions is two years.

A nonvoting position is also available for a financial community representative.

Applications may be obtained from the city clerk at 893-1000.

The Gulfport Waterfront District offers live music and refreshments on the first Friday and third Saturday of each month at the Gulfport Artwalk. The next event will take place Aug. 2.

Free parking is available, as well as a free trolley service that takes visitors on a tour of historic Gulfport.

St. Pete Beach

The St. Pete Beach Library has a new selection of audiobooks. A rotating collection of 250 to 300 new audiobook titles is available each quarter with an emphasis on popular works, mostly fiction, and a few biographies. Almost all are or were on the bestseller list.

Books on compact disc are included with the cassettes. The library is at 365 73rd Ave. For more information about its collections and programs, call 363-9238 or visit www.tblc.org/spb.

Indian Rocks Beach

Octoberfest 2002 will be celebrated Oct. 19 at Kolb Park in Indian Rocks Beach.

The grand prize of a raffle is a ticket to Oktoberfest 2003 in Munich. The winner may instead choose a check for $2,500, to be awarded at the drawing at 5 p.m. Oct. 19.

Octoberfest 2002 will feature German bands, food, dancing, and activities for both children and adults.

Raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 at the Beach Art Center or from Larry Torgerson, 593-0150, or Patti Muneio, 517-8076.

Sponsors of the event are Action 2000, the Beach Art Center and the city of Indian Rocks Beach.

Applications are available for artists and crafters who would like to participate in the Beach Art Center's 24th Annual Fall Festival. Spaces are available until filled. The deadline is Nov. 1.

The festival combines visual arts with holiday crafts, a pancake breakfast, bake sale, children's activities, live music, food and drink, a classic car show and Chalk Walk 2002.

The festival will be held Nov. 18 in Kolb Park in Indian Rocks Beach. The Beach Art Center is next to Indian Rocks Beach City Hall.

Indian Shores

Indian Shores visitors and part-time residents who don't have access to a computer can check their e-mail and pay bills online. A computer terminal with a color printer has been installed at Town Hall and may be used during normal business hours for free. Call 595-4020 for information.
