TAMPA -- Palm Harbor's major baseball team bested Northeast and Bayshore Saturday to win its pool at the Section 7 tournament at Interbay.
Palm Harbor and Bayshore will have a rematch for the championship at 1 p.m. today to determine who advances to the state tournament this week in Debary.
Jamison Sweat had a complete game, 16-strikeout performance as Palm Harbor beat Northeast 7-3. Nic Gaines' two-run homer in the third was one of two hits Sweat allowed. All of Palm Harbor's runs came in the top of the third.
Later, Sweat had two doubles, and a two-run homer from Ryan Garton in the first pushed Palm Harbor over Bayshore 6-4.
Dunedin American's junior baseball team is in Monday's sectional championship. Dunedin broke Northeast by scoring four in the first and six in the fourth en route to a 13-0 win. Cody Lehasky crushed a homer to center to finish the scoring and Dunedin got a boost from Josh Paquette, who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Coupled with Northeast's earlier 6-3 loss to Citrus Park, Dunedin clinched a spot in the finals, though it dropped its second game 6-5 to Citrus Park.
Pinellas Park National junior softball regrouped from a 10-0 loss in its first game to beat Safety Harbor 9-3. Brittany Rose had a crucial double in the fourth as Pinellas Park went up 4-0, then hung on.
Pinellas Park then had to root for Tampa Bay if it was to advance to today's championship game. Tampa Bay answered Pinellas Park's prayers by defeating Safety Harbor 15-3 in five innings.
Sam Ortega doubled as Safety Harbor scored two in the first to take an early lead. But Tampa Bay responded by scoring nine in the bottom of the second, all with two outs. Pinellas Park and Tampa Bay play at 1 today at Interbay.
In major softball, Safety Harbor's 12-3 victory over Seminole put it in today's 1 p.m. title game against Citrus Park at Interbay. Safety Harbor's Beth Williamson went 4-for-4, only missing a home run to complete the cycle. Jamie Crosby had a two-run double in the sixth and leadoff hitter Mallory Crim went 2-for-2 with three runs. For Seminole, Christina Barshel scored twice.
Seminole plated three in the first in its opener but Citrus Park rallied to win 11-3.
If Safety Harbor is to win the sectional, it will have to shake off its 11-1 defeat to Citrus Park in the last round-robin game.
Pinellas Park lost 11-2 to Tampa Bay in minor baseball. Travis Agosto had two walks and scored both runs for Pinellas Park.
Cross Bayou stumbled against Northside, losing 12-1 in minor softball. Bayou's Jackie Carow singled in her team's run in the fourth to end Kristen McGrath's no-hit bid.
