Injured worker plans to file suitBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published July 24, 2002 ZEPHYRHILLS -- A 26-year-old construction worker notified Zephyrhills and Pasco County that he plans to sue for injuries suffered while paving part of State Road 54 three years ago. Christopher Harrell, then 23, was painting part of the road just after midnight on July 24, 1999, when a 70,000-pound Mack truck that was backing up knocked him to the ground and ran over his left leg. In a letter to city officials, Tampa attorney Ronald McCall claims that the truck backing toward Harrell lacked proper lighting and was operated "negligently and carelessly." He also claims that Pasco County and Zephyrhills failed to properly control traffic in the area. McCall wrote that Harrell lost wages and suffered medical expenses in excess of $150,000. By law, plaintiffs must notify governments six months before filing a lawsuit to give them an opportunity to settle the matter. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
