100-year birthdays

Gertrude Kusswetter Flichtbeil celebrates her 100th birthday today. She was born July 24, 1902, in Frankfort, Germany. She emigrated to New York City in 1926 where she worked for a time as a baby nurse.

In 1936, she married Reinhold Flichtbeil. She became a U.S. citizen in 1940 and, during World War II, she drove Army vehicles at the New York shipyard.

The Flichtbeils moved to Florida, living first in Fort Lauderdale and then Dania. Mr. Flichtbeil died in 1968. She continued with a planned moved to St. Petersburg right after his death.
