DAYTONA BEACH -- Dottie Pepper, who has won 17 times on the LPGA Tour, will miss the rest of this season because her left shoulder has not fully healed from surgery in March.

Pepper also will miss the Solheim Cup competition between the United States and Europe on Sept. 20-22 in Edina, Minn.

"My shoulder just isn't ready for the daily grind of tour golf yet," said Pepper, who won the Nabisco Dinah Shore Championship in 1992 and '99. "Withdrawing from the Solheim Cup was one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make, but at the same time, it was also very easy because I simply would not be able to represent my team and my country the way I feel I could."

Pepper is fourth in the Solheim Cup standings. She will be replaced by the player who is 11th on the list Sept. 1, the deadline for qualifying.

TIGER LIKELY IN BUICK: Tiger Woods plans to play in the Buick Open Aug. 8-11 in Grand Blanc, Mich., the Associated Press reported. It will be Woods' first tournament since the British Open, where he shot 81 in the third round and finished tied for 28th.

"It's on his schedule, but we haven't received an official commitment yet," Buick Open media director Al Abrams said. "He has until next Friday to commit. We're waiting to hear."
