Northoftampa: Sports Digest

Registration for the Hillsborough County United Soccer fall soccer league will be held at Sickles High School cafeteria, 7950 Gunn Highway, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 10, 17 and 24. The league is for children ages 4 to 17. The cost of $115 ($110 for additional siblings) includes a uniform. Players should provide a ball, soccer cleats and shin guards. The 14-game season will begin Oct. 12 and end Feb. 1, with Thanksgiving and winter breaks. For registration, a parent or guardian should accompany his or her child, bring a copy of the child's birth certificate, a notarized medical release form and a completed registration form. Forms can be obtained at registration or from www.hcusoccer.com/rec.htm. Players will be sized for uniforms at registration. Volunteers, including notaries, are needed to assist with registration. Each player or their parents are required to volunteer 12 hours during the season, beyond coaching and team parent activities.

All-girls soccer teams will form for 6- to 11-year-olds. More information on the girls program will be available at registration. Co-ed teams will form for 4- to 11-year-olds. Baseball team tryouts planned

The Tampa Fireballs baseball team is holding tryouts for children under 12 on Saturday and Sunday at the baseball complex on S Mobley Road a mile east of Gunn Highway. Tryouts for pitchers and catchers will be held at 1 p.m. Infielder and outfielder tryouts will be held at 3 p.m. For information, call 963-3422 or 269-7866.

Sports physicals to be offered

Sports physicals will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 at Memorial Hospital, 2829 W DeLeon St. The $10 cost will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. The physicals cover general medical, orthopedic, foot, eyes, hearing, flexibility and body fat. The exam meets Hillsborough County Schools and FHSAA requirements and will be available on a walk-in and appointment basis. For information or an appointment, call 873-2673.
