    Racing tonight at Sunshine Speedway

    published July 27, 2002

WHAT: Dayton Andrews Dodge/Leo Musgrave 100-lap Super Late Model Championship, plus events in the Open Wheel Modified, Outlaw Late Model, Figure 8, Street Stock and Enduro classes.

WHEN: Grandstands open at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 7.

WHERE: 4500 Ulmerton Road (State Road 688).

ADMISSION: Adults, $15; children 6-12, $5; children under 6, free; parking, free.

NOTES: The highly-esteemed Leo Musgrave Late Model Championship is back for Round 2 after being knocked from the bill four weeks ago by heavy rain. Pinellas Park's Dave Pletcher, No. 75, leads the field by a 10-point margin and is followed by Plant City's Jeff Scofield, No. 7. They split the first two races of 2002, with each taking a first and second. Pletcher's high heat-race finishes created the gap. Defending points champ Dwayne Dempsey, No. 15, is geared for a continued push to a position more congruent with his past record after falling to 15th at the start of the series. His fourth-place showing in the Bud Light 100 on April 20 gave him a spot in the top 10. No time trials are scheduled. Laps were successfully completed before the rain hit, so the performances will stand. Any new entries will start at the rear. Mini Stocks will be absent tonight since that feature was finished prior to the downpour.
