TAMPA -- Yankees pitcher Sterling Hitchcock, out with a sore lower back, pitched a perfect inning during his final rehabilitation start Saturday in a Gulf Coast League game.

He could return from the disabled list today.

"We'll see how Hitchcock feels (today)," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "And if he feels well enough to go (we'll activate him)."

In his second outing in three days, Hitchcock struck out two of the three Tiger minor-leaguers he faced. He threw eight of 10 pitches for strikes.

Hitchcock struck out four in two hitless innings against Philadelphia's team Thursday.

"I'm a lot more comfortable in my mechanics right now," said Hitchcock, who went on the 15-day DL on June 28.

"I know what I'm doing. At this point last time (end of his rehab), I wasn't real sure. I feel good, and I'm stronger now."
