TAMPA -- A 22-year-old New Tampa man was killed early Saturday afternoon on the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway when his SUV flipped over..

Jason Knight, 22, who lived on Via Del Mar, died at the scene.

The SUV's other occupant, 17-year-old Clayton Whitman Kearney of Seddon Cove Way, was listed in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital late Saturday.

"They don't know why he ran off the road," Tampa police Sgt. Laura Ladd said of the driver. The 2002 Mitsubishi had veered off the road a half mile east of Bay to Bay Boulevard. But "evidently he overcorrected," causing the car to roll.

Police said they were unsure who was driving because both occupants were ejected. But the vehicle was registered to Knight.
