In the newsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published July 30, 2002 Orchestra can't find security firm The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra won't be going on a U.S. concert tour because it has been unable to find an American security firm to guard its 100 musicians, an orchestra official said Monday. "We did not cancel the tour, they canceled us," said orchestra chief executive Avi Shoshani. The orchestra was scheduled to perform next month in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago, but called off the U.S. leg of its international tour when it couldn't organize a security company to protect its musicians. "All I know is that we signed a contract with our agent and that he could not find a security company for us," said Shoshani, who says orchestra agent Allen Sviridoff called a number of security firms to request their services at the outdoor concerts, but all returned with the same answer: They were unwilling to take on the risk of terror attack. Former Miss N.C. blames photosMiss North Carolina quit last week because her former fiance told Miss America Organization officials about topless photos of her, she said Monday. Rebekah Revels told ABC's Good Morning America that the man had surprised her by taking two pictures while she was changing clothes. She has not disclosed the name of the ex-boyfriend, who she says physically and emotionally abused her. Revels, 24, resigned her title July 23. Miss America Organization officials said she was not forced to resign. But Revels said they were going to deny her a shot at Miss America if she kept her state crown. "The Miss America Pageant was not going to let me compete because they feel I breached the moral clause of their contract, after my ex-boyfriend e-mailed them and said, "Ask her about two nude photos,' " Revels said. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
