Volunteer to teach a blind, visually-impaired student

The Watson Center, 6925 112th Circle N, Suite 103, Largo, needs volunteer teachers to conduct classes for blind and visually-impaired students beginning Aug. 7. Classes take place once a week for 19 weeks. Subjects vary. Call (727) 544-4433, ext. 235.

Become a 'special friend' to an abused child

Adults ages 30 and older are needed to become "Special Friends" for abused and neglected children in Pinellas County. The Permanency Support Program matches volunteers with children ages 3 to 11 for activities including reading, fishing and baking. Academy at PHCC offering fall classes

Turn in your old cell phone and help a fellow senior

An old or unused cell phone could save a life. The Pasco-Pinellas Area Agency on Aging Senior Victim Advocate Program is collecting cell phones to distribute as 911 emergency or "Safety Phones" for seniors. For information on donating or obtaining a "Safety Phone," call (727) 576-1533.

North Suncoast beach party set for Aug. 15
