For starter, a complete week

Durham pitcher Lance Carter may have made just one start last week, but those nine innings were all he needed to earn him International League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Carter, 27, pitched the Bulls' second complete game shutout of the season (Luis De Los Santos had the other June 3) for his sixth victory and fourth since moving into the starting rotation May 12. He also joined De Los Santos and Emil Brown as the only Durham players to be named league players of the week this season.
Carter faced the minimum 21 Indianapolis Indians over the first seven innings, falling short of perfection because of Jon Zuber's one-out single in the first. Zuber was doubled up on Chris Jones' liner to the mound to end the inning. Carter allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two.
Carter, who spent his first seven seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization and signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent Jan.1, is second on the Durham staff in ERA, third in wins and innings pitched, fourth in strikeouts and fifth in games.
He missed all of 2001 after Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
THERE'S JACE: Jace Brewer, selected four rounds after Rocco Baldelli went sixth overall in 2000, was promoted to Double-A Orlando the same day as his Blaze teammate. While Baldelli has had a breakthrough season, Brewer has struggled.
Through 37 Double-A at-bats, Brewer was batting .108 with more strikeouts (seven) than runs, hits or total bases. Brewer, who had six home runs and 44 RBIs at Bakersfield, entered Tuesday night's game with one RBI for Orlando.
FREE BASEBALL: Entering this past weekend, Bakersfield had played one extra-inning game this season. Now it seems all it likes to do is make its wins, and losses, dramatic.
Rancho Cucamonga showed up this weekend for a three-game series that almost became a four-game ordeal thanks to plenty of extra frames.
Friday night Aaron Clark hit a two-run homer in the 12th to give the Blaze a 4-3 win, giving the Bakersfield faithful some hope in the first game since Baldelli and Brewer were promoted, All-Star third baseman Juan Salas went on the disabled list with a broken hand and top prospect Josh Hamilton had his season ended by shoulder surgery.
Saturday, Cucamonga scoring twice in the 12th to win 5-3 after holding the Blaze scoreless for the final nine innings.
MORE FREE BASEBALL: In a game that took 5 hours, 56 minutes, spanned 18 innings and saw Hudson Valley do a fine impersonation of its parent club by leaving 14 men on base, the Renegades escaped with a 13-9 win against Lowell.
It was the longest game in Rays organization history.
Brian Allen, Hudson Valley's seventh pitcher of the night, allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five over the final five innings to earn his first win.
Joey Gomes was 3-for-8 with his league-leading ninth home run. Shawn Riggans was 2-for-6 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs, and Trae Duncan was 4-for-9.
Some other specifics: 14 pitchers were used. There were 24 walks and 33 strikeouts. The bottom of the seventh began at 9:15 p.m. with Hudson Valley ahead 7-0. The final out was made at 1:05 a.m. A postgame fireworks show was canceled.
