A fun look at pirates
ST. PETERSBURG -- You would never call "The Golden Age of Piracy" at the Florida International Museum historically correct, but it is fun. Artist Don Maitz is most famous for creating Captain Morgan, fictional pitchman for the eponymous spiced rum, and illustrations from ads plus a larger-than-life captain are on display. Other depictions of pirates, close in spirit to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean, are also in this show, including an illustration that was featured in National Geographic. Maitz is a talented illustrator who has worked on numerous projects, among them Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. "The Golden Age of Piracy" runs through Sept. 2 at the Florida International Museum, 100 Second St. N. Permanent displays are a collection of Kennedy memorabilia and an exhibit on the Cuban Missile Crisis. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Adults $6, discounts for students and seniors. Children under 6 free. (727) 822-3693.
