TALLAHASSEE -- A state Republican Party complaint over an ad promoting Bill McBride, Democratic candidate for governor, has been dismissed.
The Florida Elections Commission told the GOP its complaint over what it called an illegal ad was "legally insufficient." The party had argued that the ad produced by the Florida Education Association backing the Tampa lawyer was an illegal campaign contribution.
The ruling comes as the governor's race becomes more negative.
A state Republican TV ad claims McBride and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno are dancing around the issues, as it shows a man and woman from the knees down tap dancing. Gov. Jeb Bush's campaign followed that up with press releases on the same theme, titled "The Bill McSlide and the Reno Shuffle."
The GOP ad began airing after the Democratic Party bashed Bush for months through e-mails to the media, which often refer to him as "the fabrication governor."
