A library carries the name of a longtime politician known as ''Commissioner No.''

She hasn't said "no" to everything. Her namesake library branch at 3910 S Manhattan Ave., completed in summer 2000, is proof.
Serving 22 years on the Hillsborough County Commission and four years before that on Tampa City Council, Platt has made little bones about where she stands on most issues. She has often been pro hospitals, parks and libraries and against publicly funded sports venues, urban sprawl and back-room politicking.
At times she has been perceived as reflexively antidevelopment and received the nickname "Commissioner No."
Born in St. Petersburg, Platt graduated from Florida State University in 1958. She sat on the Tampa City Council from 1974 to 1978.
She was re-elected to four terms on the County Commission, stepping down in 1994 to run for mayor of Tampa. She lost to Dick Greco, and was elected back to the commission in 1996. She's married and has one son.
