SCHOOL INSURANCE

Families may buy supplemental accident insurance that covers their children during the school year through a company designated by the School Board.

School district officials will send insurance applications home with students during the first week of school. Parents also may pick up applications at school offices.

The company providing the coverage is Bob Fowinkle's School Insurance Agency of Bradenton. The toll-free number is 1-800-541-8256.

Several plans are available. Some cover children only at school; others provide coverage 24 hours a day.

Three options are available for basic at-school protection, costing $8, $16, or $32 for the year.

There are three options for 24-hour coverage, costing $48, $96 or $144 for the year. The 24-hour coverage is a 12-month policy.

District officials say the coverage does not pay for all medical costs, but is intended as an insurance supplement.

Students who play high school football or soccer must buy the sports coverage if their families do not have insurance of their own.
