So long, summer
Tuck away those lazy memories. Kids everywhere are stocking up on supplies after a brief break. Where did the time go?

It's that time again. Time to go back to school. Time to trade in that swimsuit for a textbook. But, was your summer vacation too short? Did you have as much fun as you planned? I had the chance to interview kids and ask them about their vacations and the upcoming school year. They gave me the scoop on how they're preparing for another year of school. Here's what they said:

X-Press: Describe your summer.
Kenny Thorn, eighth grade, Tyrone Middle, St. Petersburg: Nothing much, just a whole lot of hanging out at the house and swimming.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Thorn: No, because I didn't get to have as much fun this summer as I did last.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school? Thorn: I'm getting my school shopping done and I'm reading books to help me do well this year.

X-Press: Describe your summer.
Leauntae Cobb, seventh grade, Tyrone Middle, St. Petersburg: I went to Universal Studios and hung out at the house.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Cobb: Yes, because I get a lot of new stuff and get to see my friends again.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school? Cobb: Reading, practicing my math and playing educational games on my computer.

X-Press: Describe your summer.
Mallory Woodall, 12th grade, Lakewood High, St. Petersburg: It was short, but I had enough time to relax.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Woodall: No, because my summer wasn't long enough.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
Woodall: Getting my school shopping out of the way and getting the needed supplies.

X-Press: Describe your summer.
Thomas Green, fifth grade, Maximo Elementary, St. Petersburg: I spent some time at the beach and enjoyed it.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Green: Yes, because school is good and I enjoy it.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school? Green: I'm doing some review work and practicing my math.

Heather Jennings, freshman, Randolph-Macon College, Virginia: Working at Lake Vista community pool.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Jennings: Yeah, I'm excited and ready to go away to school.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
Jennings: I've got all of my college stuff ready and plan on hitting the books.

X-Press: Describe your summer.
Kevin McGrath, fifth grade, Sabal Point Elementary, Longwood: Vacationing in New York, and a lot of relaxing around the house.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
McGrath: Yes, but I wish summer could have lasted a little bit longer this year.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
McGrath: Shopping and getting all of my school supplies out of the way.

Sarah Trull, 12th grade, Boca Ciega High, Gulfport: It was nice.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Trull: Yes, I guess so, but I'm really nervous.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
Trull: Shopping and getting a lot of my school supplies.

Katrina Trull, first year at PTEC, St. Petersburg: Boring but fun.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Trull: Yeah, I've been looking forward to it.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
Trull: Getting a lot of the tools I need for my classes.

Ciara Harrington, seventh grade, Academy Prep, St. Petersburg: Not much of a summer because I go to school year-round.
X-Press: Are you ready for school to start?
Harrington: Yes, so I can see a lot of my friends again and have a fun time at school.
X-Press: What are you doing to prepare for school?
Harrington: Getting everything I need out of the way, like clothes and school supplies.
