BILLS: Guard Ruben Brown, nursing a sprained left knee, is expected to miss the preseason opener against Cincinnati on Friday. "Ruben is progressing real well, but it's doubtful that he'll play," coach Gregg Williams said. "He's made a lot of progress the last few days, but I'm just not going to rush him." ... Defensive end Erik Flowers (neck) returned to practice on a limited basis after getting hurt last week.

CHIEFS: The team signed Arena League defensive end R-Kal Truluck to a two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal, reached Tuesday, were not disclosed. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Fury, leading the Arena League in sacks this year with nine. He also played three seasons for Saskatchewan in the CFL.

COLTS: Running back Dominic Rhodes injured his left shoulder near the end of practice Wednesday and is likely to miss the preseason opener Saturday at Seattle.

DOLPHINS: Quarterback Jay Fiedler flew in owner Wayne Huizenga's jet to Pittsburgh for an examination of his surgically repaired left hip, received clearance to join practice and returned to Florida in time for the team's afternoon workout. "It's great to be back out there and taking part in the whole practice," he said. Barring a setback, he'll start Monday in the preseason game against the Bucs.

RAVENS: Casey Rabach, the team's 2001 third-round pick, spent last year as a backup center. He did not play, but his practice there has paved the way this season for a smoother transition to left guard, where he will play for the first time in the preseason opener Friday against Detroit. "The year at center helped me out because the center is made to learn everything," Rabach said. "Playing at guard is almost like a weight off my shoulders because the mental part of playing guard is a lot less than center. When I go up to the line, I see things from a center's standpoint first, then from a guard's, and I think that helps me out a lot. When I moved to guard, I felt a lot more free. You have to be more of an athlete because of the wide techniques. But I like it though. It's something that is challenging, but something I think I'm handling."

TEXANS: Ryan Young is scheduled for surgery today to repair a groin injury and will miss 4-8 weeks, leaving the team without the both players it planned to start at tackle. Tony Boselli, a five-time Pro Bowl player, will miss the regular-season opener because of recurring shoulder problems.

TITANS: Workers started removing the letters spelling out "Adelphia" from the team's stadium in Nashville. For now, it will be called the Coliseum, until team officials find a company ready to pay to put its name on the stadium. A federal bankruptcy judge formally ended the agreement that was in place with Adelphia Business Solutions. ... Linebacker Peter Sirmon remained in the hospital for a second night as doctors treated him for flu-like symptoms.
