Despite troubles, Brunell's a Jag

JACKSONVILLE -- One by one, Mark Brunell watched the pieces of the Jaguars disappear, until it felt like he was the only piece left.

Suddenly, a quarterback in his prime found himself in the center of a rebuilding project. Naturally, he didn't like the feeling.

But after a summer of soul searching -- and anger, frustration and remorse over the release of Tony Boselli, Keenan McCardell and others who helped define the Jaguars in their successful early years -- the 10th-year quarterback insists there's nowhere he'd rather be.

"Do I want to be here? I do," Brunell said. "Is that realistic? I hope so. I want to finish my career here. Hopefully, that's four, five, six years down the road. Physically, mentally and emotionally, I feel like I can do it."

INJURED SAFETY HOPEFUL: Houston safety Leomont Evans was back in Texas, walking and hoping a collision that bruised his spine in the Hall of Fame Game in Ohio this week won't end his career.

"I'm definitely trying to play again," Evans told Houston television station KRIV, shortly after returning from Canton, Ohio. "We've got some more tests to run. We're going to try to be smart about this thing."

Evans was released from an Ohio hospital Wednesday morning.

TELEVISION: ESPN will experiment again with an overhead camera during two preseason telecasts.

The camera, which is maneuvered above the field by a wire-and-pulley system, will be used during the network's telecasts of the Jets-Steelers game tonight and the Raiders-Titans game Aug. 15.

"It's a continuation of our experiment with SkyCam. ABC used it on the Pro Bowl. We want to continue to look at it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "It's been approved for use somewhere down the road."
