Man, 21, charged with forcing girl to have sex

SPRING HILL -- A 21-year-old was arrested this week on charges that he forced a 13-year-old girl to have sex with him.

Steven Forest Pomeroy of 74391 First Circle Drive was charged with one count of lewd or lascivious battery, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that the girl was staying at a friend's house in July and Pomeroy and his friend came over at about 1 a.m. Pomeroy was allowed into the home and after a while, Pomeroy asked the 13-year-old to go into the bedroom with him, authorities said.

Once there, Pomeroy asked her to have sex and she said no, authorities said.

Deputies said he had intercourse with her anyway.

The teen's mother called authorities after hearing what happened.

Lewd and lascivious battery is a second-degree felony that can carry up to 15 years in prison.
