ST. PETERSBURG -- A helicopter crew with Pinellas County Mosquito Control discovered a body floating in Lake Maggiore Friday morning.

Police and firefighters in a boat retrieved the body of a black man. His identity had not been determined.

The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

The body appeared to be wounded, police said, but investigators could not immediately determine how the wounds were inflicted.

The body, not visible from shore, was found about 11:30 a.m. in some weeds in the northwest corner of the lake, near a St. Petersburg Fire Department training compound at the end of 22nd Street S, below 26th Avenue S.
