Church wants to build grade school

NORTHDALE: Northdale Evangelical Lutheran Church wants to build its own private school adjacent to the church sanctuary on Mapledale Boulevard.

NORTHDALE: Northdale Evangelical Lutheran Church wants to build its own private school adjacent to the church sanctuary on Mapledale Boulevard.

The 18-year-old church, just north of Northdale Boulevard, submitted a request for a special use permit that would allow a school for up to 100 children from kindergarten through eighth grade. The project would be built in two phases and would include approximately 7,956 square feet for classrooms, a conference room and an office for the pastor and principal.

A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the plan Sept. 27. (Petition 02-1255)

County commissioners are scheduled to hear the following petitions at Tuesday's Land Use Meeting:

CARROLLWOOD: M/I Schottenstein Homes will present its plans for a 110-home subdivision on 34 acres off the east side of Henderson Road, north of Williamsburg Way. The company is seeking a rezoning that will allow six homes to the acre. According to the request, lot sizes would range from 7,150 to 7,770 square feet. County staffers and a zoning hearing master have recommended commissioners approve the development. (Petition 02-0794)

CARROLLWOOD: The owner of 3.8 acres at the southeast corner of Gunn Highway and Henderson Road is seeking a land-use change that would allow developers to build up to 25,000 square feet of commercial space. A 2,940-square-foot 7-Eleven store and gasoline pumps now occupy the site. County zoning officials have recommended approval of the request. (Petition 02-0683)

CARROLLWOOD: Southerland Place wants commissioners to approve an increase in the number of residents allowed at its residential home on Bearss Avenue, west of Smitter Road. The facility wants to increase the number of beds from 84 to 125. Zoning staff is recommending the county approve the increase. (Petition 02-0766)

LUTZ: The owners of a quarter acre on Chapman Road, east of Florida Avenue, want permission to convert their home into a professional office. County staffers are endorsing the project. (Petition 02-0708)

Hearings of county zoning hearing masters and land use hearing officers and land use meetings of the County Commission are held on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. Zoning hearings begin at 6 p.m., and commission meetings begin at 9 a.m. Both are televised on government access channels.
