49ERS: Defensive back Chad Cota signed after rookie safety Kevin Curtis was placed on injured reserve with a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Cota, a starter for the Colts last season, worked out Tuesday. The Colts cut Cota to eliminate his $2-million salary.
PACKERS: Offensive lineman Earl Dotson, plagued by injuries the past two seasons, might have to wait another week to make his training camp debut. The Packers had hoped to get Dotson on the field this week, but he has a sore hamstring and hasn't been cleared by the medical staff. Dotson started at right tackle from 1995 until Week 2 of 2000, when he was felled by a bad back. Last season, he was limited by knee tendinitis, a hip flexor and back tightness and spasms.
REDSKINS: Defensive end Ladairis Jackson, who had four sacks against San Francisco, has been among the biggest surprises. "From the first time I saw him, it's been the same thing," linebacker LaVar Arrington said. "He's been running around people. Any time you can beat Chris Samuels consistently off the edge, you're doing something." Jackson was cut by the Rhein of NFL Europe.
SAINTS: First-round pick Donte' Stallworth will miss tonight's game to rehabilitate his injured hamstring. "I can go out and run about 65 percent," the receiver said. "That wouldn't help anybody. I just want to take everything slow. When I get out there, I want to stay out there and not get hurt."
VIKINGS: Backup quarterback Spergon Wynn and rookie receiver Devin Lewis were released. Wynn struggled and fell behind rookie Shaun Hill on the depth chart. Lewis was a free agent from Southern.
