    Finalists chosen for chancellor jobs

    The Florida Board of Education is close to selecting new chancellors to run the university and community college systems.

    Finalists were announced Friday. Next week the selection committee will interview them and make recommendations. A vote is expected Aug. 29.

    The finalists to run the Division of Colleges and Universities are:

    Diane Welch Vines, vice chancellor of corporate and public affairs and board secretary for the Oregon University System.

    Daniel S. Papp, senior vice chancellor for academics and fiscal affairs for the University System of Georgia.

    Portia Holmes Shields, president of Albany State University in Albany, Ga.

    The finalists for the community college chancellor job are:

    J. David Armstrong Jr., interim chancellor of the Florida Community College System.

    Carol D'Amico, assistant secretary for vocational and adult education for the U.S. Department of Education.

    Jack E. Daniels III, president of the Houston Community College System-Central College.
